Born 1963, sensei Jeven was enrolled in Judo classes at age six (as an economic alternative to babysitting) at Warlingham Youth Club, Surrey, England. The experience fueled his interest in taking a series of other classes through the '70s in Karate, Ninjitsu and Kung Fu.
In 1982 he visited the Sir Philip Game Center to discover an art that appeared to be a physical expression of his character, and which became his passion - Aikido. Joining the Tokushima Budo Council International (TBCI) in 1986 for his first formal grading, sensei Jeven continued to study Aikido, Jujitsu and weapons under Senseis Rick Domfe and Tudor Box. While with the club, he was presented with "Student of the Year" and "Spirit of Budo" awards on two occasions, and became class sempai in 1987. He graduated Shodan in 1988, and began his formal teacher-training, attaining title of Doshi a year later.
Attending all TBCI National and Regional Budo courses between 1982 and 92 afforded him the opportunity to study with master instructors Alfred Bates, George Stobbaerts, Robert Bamban, M. Michiels, Pierre Chalmange, Stephane Goffin, and Shijo Nishio. During the same period, sensei Jeven participated in numerous charitable demonstrations and exhibitions, including the first world Butoku Sai of the Dai Nippon Black Belt Society hosted October '98 in Norfolk, Virginia.
